The system allows GPs from Southwark CCG to share their cases online with a panel of paediatric consultants from the Evelina London Children’s Hospital and King’s College Hospital, enabling some patients to be managed entirely in the community.

The project is being run alongside Guy’s and St Thomas’ Children and Young People’s Health Partnership initiative, which is aiming to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people in Southwark and Lambeth.
Using the DefinitiveDx website, GPs can share and discuss cases online with consultants prior to a formal referral to secondary care. GPs then receive advice and information to manage their patients in primary care. There is also the option to stream patients who do require a referral to the relevant service.
Supportive network of peers
Dr Jacques Mizan, a GP in Southwark and board member of Southwark CCG, is the lead GP for the initiative. He believes the system can help improve the way primary and secondary care work together.
‘DefinitiveDx has great potential, not only to improve clinical care at single practitioner level, but also to create a supportive network of peers and improve the interface between primary and secondary care,’ he explains.
‘The system is simple and intuitive to use with the ability to set up bespoke panels - such as paediatricians, dermatologists - adding to the richness of expertise available on tap.’
Any doctor can sign up to use DefinitiveDx for free to share patient cases with the Evelina and King’s paediatric panel and other speciality panels. There is also an international panel for paediatric anaesthetic cases. Members of these panels give their opinions to help diagnose and manage GPs’ cases, or advise on referrals when required.
The team behind DefinitiveDx are working to create more specialist panels of consultants in participating trusts. The service is free to use and there is no cost for the CCG or trusts involved. So, if you would like to be involved in a specialist panel, or know some who would, please contact Ali Whittaker on ali.whittaker@meddigital.com or +44 (0)7932 063347.
